Meet our GPs
General Practitioner
Dr João Calinas
Dr Calinas qualified in medicine at the University of Porto, Portugal, in 1989, and went on to serve as a Medical Officer in the Portuguese Army before moving to the UK in 1996. He completed his GP training through the Plymouth Vocational Training Scheme in 2000.
He has over 25 years' experience in NHS general practice, based largely in Nottinghamshire but also working across the UK — from the Isles of Scilly to the Shetland Islands. Since relocating to Dorset in 2023, he has continued to work as a GP and holds a GP with Extended Role position in Chronic Pain in Hampshire.
His clinical interests centre on evidence-based, holistic approaches to long-term health, with a particular focus on lifestyle medicine and supporting patients in achieving lasting wellbeing.

Dr Steven Bick
Dr Steven Bick is a local GP based in Bournemouth, originally from Weymouth. He graduated from the University of Birmingham and went on to complete GP training alongside experience in Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Elderly Care, and Acute Medicine, as well as a year in Orthopaedic Surgery.
He was a GP partner in Weymouth from 1991 to 2010 before working overseas in the Falkland Islands. From 2014 to 2018, he served within the Ministry of Defence in a range of medical roles, including postings in Salisbury Plain and Cyprus.
Dr Bick believes in "old school" general practice, offering thorough face-to-face consultations. He takes a holistic approach and also provides joint injections, steroid treatments, viscosupplementation, and minor surgery for lumps and bumps.
